Gardening, Allotments and Politics

The allotment has an important place in British history, providing a small piece of land to ordinary people, traditionally the working classes, so they can engage in gardening. A popular use is to produce affordable food in the form of fruit and veg.

Given austerity and a regular cost of living crisis in the UK, the allotment is a lifeline for many who often can’t afford fresh fruit and veg in the supermarket.

The Question of Age Verification and the UK Online Safety Act

Sites have several ways to check your age. They can ask for a selfie that is checked against your passport, driver’s license, or government ID. They can also check with your mobile phone provider, or a credit card check.

Many companies now offer an age verification service.

One method can even check your email to see who you have been in contact with, like banks or anything that would indicate your age.

But don’t worry, house prices with a sea view are going up! Not only are you buying into rising values, you are also buying into rising sea levels!

Our home was a very basic and small terraced house. Despite its lack of size, it had six rooms across two floors. There was no bathroom, though, and the toilet was outside. The traditional British terraced house was typically a two-up, two-down property, having a ground and first floor with two rooms on each. So, in one sense, my parents were doing better than many people, but it was a very ordinary property. No bathroom, no central heating, damp in places, it looked its age, which was old.
