I Asked Chat GPT to Come Up With a New Book Cover (Part One)

As I have been thinking about changing the cover of my book, I asked ChatGPT to come up with something that was more upbeat and colourful than the one I had originally designed. I thought the original might be too dark and unappealing.

And this was its first attempt.

I thought it was colourful and bright, but wondered why the face features were missing.

So, I asked it to come up with its own cover.

Now can you produce a cover that shows a montage of life growing up in the 1960s, 1970s, England. I will leave the design to you.

I thought this was interesting. I liked the montage, but requested some changes. Maybe change the colours as well. ChatGPT seems to like yellow.

So I asked for the following.

Can you change the flag to an image of a school building. Change the centre picture of the moped to a boy with dark hair on a Raleigh Chopper bicycle. Change the picture of the house to a terraced house. Change the record at the bottom left to a cassette tape.

It thought about it for a while, and then…

It seems like I can’t generate any more images right now. Please try again later. Let me know if you have any other requests or need assistance with something else!

I waited a while and then asked again.

Thanks for your patience — right now, I still can't generate or edit new images directly at the moment.

However, here’s what I can do: I can describe very clearly how the new cover should look based on your changes, so you (or a designer) could easily create it, or I can prepare a brief you can hand to a graphic designer.

ChatGPT carried on with all it could do, but it could no longer provide images. I don't think that two was the maximum for the free account, so I assume it was overworked.

It must have been tired.

Things were going so well.

I'll try again tomorrow.
